Militants Attacks: Yoruba, Ijaw Leaders Renew Call For State Security
Leaders of the Yoruba Unity Forum (YUF) and Ijaw
National Congress (INC) Wednesday renewed call for the introduction of state police to address the security challenges facing Nigeria.
They spoke against the backdrop of militant attacks
on some borderline communities in Lagos and Ogun
states, which had led to wanton killings and
destruction of properties.
The violent attacks, which had been blamed on
suspected Niger Delta militants, had forced hundreds of residents of the affected areas to flee their homes.
However, the YUF and INC Wednesday converged
on the palace of the Akarigbo and Paramount Ruler of Remoland, Oba Michael Sonariwo, in Sagamu in an apparent effort to find a solution to the ugly trend.
The Yoruba delegation was led by Afenifere
spokesman, Mr Yinka Odumakin, while the Chairmanof Bayelsa Elders Council, Chief Francis Dokpola, led other notable leaders of Ijaw nation to the meeting.
